Brian Burgess has been nominated as a candidate by Bees United and FC United of Manchester in this year’s election for non-executive directors to serve on the board of Supporters Direct, the national umbrella body for supporters’ trusts.

Supporters Direct is an Industrial and Provident Society whose membership comprises all supporters trusts that have paid their subscriptions. The member trusts normally cast their votes in an annual election for vacant positions on the society board which are voluntary and unpaid.

This year there are three vacancies for a term of three years and one vacancy for a one year term to replace a board member who has stepped down early.

Supporters Direct has advised that as they have received four nominations for the four places there will be no call for a ballot this year. The four candidates, Brian Burgess, Pauline Green, Neil Le Milliere and Robert Pepper, will be elected subject to an affirmative vote of the members at the upcoming Supporters Direct Annual Conference in Birmingham on Friday 16th October.

Terms of office will be determined by the drawing of lots at the Board meeting which will take place following the AGM on the same date.

Details of all four candidates can be seen on the Supporters Direct website at http://supporters-direct.org/news/item.asp?n=5483&cat=sd_eng

Burgess, who was chairman of Bees United from 2003 to November 2007, is now working on the new Lionel Road stadium project as an executive director of Brentford FC (Lionel Road) Ltd. Whether or not Burgess is confirmed as a Supporters Direct board member at the AGM, his work for Brentford will continue unaffected.

Bees United will issue an update following the Supporters Direct Conference on 16 October.
