At this year’s Annual General Meeting of Supporters Direct on Friday 16 October, Brian Burgess was one of four non-executive directors elected to serve on the Supporters Direct board.

Supporters Direct, the national umbrella body for supporters trusts, is an Industrial and Provident Society whose membership comprises all supporters trust that have paid their subscriptions.

Burgess was nominated as a candidate by Bees United and FC United of Manchester for one of the four vacant positions on the society board which are voluntary and unpaid.

This year there were three vacancies for a term of three years and one vacancy for a one year term to replace a board member who has stepped down early.

There were four nominations for the four places and the four candidates, Brian Burgess, Dame Pauline Green, Neil Le Milliere and Robert Pepper, were elected by an affirmative vote of the members at the Conference in Birmingham.

The terms of office were determined by the drawing of lots at the Board meeting which took place following the AGM. Burgess drew the one year slot.

Details of all four candidates can be seen on the Supporters Direct website at http://supporters-direct.org/news/item.asp?n=5483&cat=sd_eng

Burgess, who was chairman of Bees United from 2003 to November 2007, is now working on the new Lionel Road stadium project as an executive director of Brentford FC (Lionel Road) Ltd.

His work for Brentford will continue unaffected by the appointment as an unpaid Supporters Direct non-executive board member.
