As part of the partnership between Bees United and Matthew Benham, Bees United has repaid the £200,000 loan which gave rise to Ian Jones’s appointment to the Board of Brentford Football Club in 2006.

Bees United has repaid the loan from its own funds.

David Merritt, Chairman of Bees United, said: “It’s great to reduce the debt facing Brentford and Bees United."

“Bees United has repaid the loan in full, without having to borrow more from elsewhere to do it. Our thanks goes to all those who financially support Bees United – you have made this possible.”

Half of the money came from Bees United member subscriptions and fundraising activities, and the other half came from the support Brian Burgess (ex-Bees United Chairman) and Chris Gammon (Bees United Secretary) provided to an earlier stage of the Lionel Road project.

As a result of this loan repayment, Ian Jones is resigning from the Board of Brentford Football Club.

David Merritt said: “We are very appreciative of Ian’s contribution to Brentford Football Club since he joined the Board as part of the Bees United acquisition in 2006. He has put a lot of effort in over the years, and I wish him every success in the future.”

This repayment was agreed as part of the partnership between Bees United and Matthew Benham, recently approved by Bees United members.
