Recently we’ve had the opportunity to get into the local Brentford community and share what we’re doing at Bees United.

Brentford FC Appreciation Day
On Saturday 10 June we headed for the London Museum of Water and Steam to be part of the Brentford FC Appreciation Day organised by the brilliant Brentford Thru My Lens and All Things Brentford.  It was a fantastic event with over 300 photographs on display and a variety of fun activities alongside the permanent exhibitions.

We just about resisted getting our faces painted but did thoroughly enjoy meeting Brentford supporters of all ages, including two who certainly didn’t look old enough to have been following the team for over 50 years!

The highlight of the day was the arrival of members of the Brentford Penguins who we loved meeting.
Bees United has sponsored the Penguins Summer Camps and we hope our contribution helps them have an amazing time and if you would like to support them you can find out more here.

We came away all talked out!

It’s true – Bees United stickers go down a storm with children and adults alike!
Our congratulations to Karen Reader and John HIrdle!

Brentford Canal Festival – Smoothie cycling from Griffin Park to Gtech

Saturday 24 June
Off again, we headed to the High Street for the
Brentford Canal Festival in partnership with EcoWorld

We were armed
with our pop up banner and a new supply of BU stickers.

With the EcoWorld team, we helped set up the Smoothie Bikes in Market Square.

These wonderful static cycles generated enough energy to make a delicious drink while you pedalled the virtual mile from Griffin Park to the Gtech.

Some of the kids were a bit too big for the bikes but they got on very well with the crowds nonetheless!

It was a baking hot day and we were a big draw for anyone wanting a cool drink and it felt like our gazebo had a constant line of parents and children wanting to get involved.

We talked to lots of Bees fans, signed up some new Bees United members, and even managed to get a Fulham (Putney) fan to grudgingly sport a BU sticker (albeit on his shoe, but we took that as a victory).

The Canal Festival was a huge undertaking by Brentford Voice, the organisers, but it just confirmed what a vibrant, fun and friendly community we have in TW8.

A very busy day ended with a much needed hug from our mascot Buzz Bee!
Buzz was fresh from his star turn at the maypole dancing.

Our huge thanks to our EcoWorld colleagues for a productive – if sticky – smoothie collaboration.

Are there any local events you think BU should get involved in?
Tell Sharon!
