Matthew Benham has consistently demonstrated his determination and commitment to act in the long-term best interests of the club, and we welcome his ambition to achieve sustainable Premier League football at the club through the introduction of an innovative management and recruitment structure, without putting the future of the Club at risk.
This is a big ambition, and a significant amount of BFC Board time – and in turn BU Board time – is spent discussing how to best achieve that target. It is a target that is directly aligned to BU’s objectives. The BU Board – and our two representatives on the BFC Board – remain completely focussed on ensuring decisions are made in the long terms interests of Brentford Football Club.
It is obviously very disappointing that Mark Warburton, who has helped the Club achieve the recent successes, has decided that he is unable to work within the new proposed structure and will be leaving the club at the end of the season. We would like to put on record our deep gratitude and appreciation for everything he has done for the club over the past four years as Coach, Director of Football and Manager. We wish him, David Weir, and Frank McParland, who are also leaving, every success in the future.
In the meantime, we look forward to the club, players and supporters joining together in concert and unity as the season builds up to what we expect to be a hugely exciting and successful finale.
